The H. Peter Burg AkronReads Book Awards were created in honor of the late Chairman and CEO of FirstEnergy, who led the effort to establish AkronReads in partnership with the Akron Public Schools and area businesses.

Awards of $500 each are presented annually to fourteen (14) graduating seniors, two from each of the Akron Public high schools. If there is no applicant/winner from one of the high schools, the award may be given to another student at one of the other high schools based on the strength of the student’s application.

Applicants must write an essay about the book that most influenced their love of reading. The book award must be used for the purchase of college text books for the graduating high school seniors.
